Fall In Love with Contrast

While styling the other day, I found myself in an interesting conversation with a designer friend.  In a nutshell, we came to the agreement that a contrast is better than a match, so that each piece stands out in its best light.

The people in our lives are like that too.  A contrast is more compatible than an exact match.  I know for myself, I am a terrible procrastinator, often because I spend so much time planning, it leaves me in a scramble to get things done.  I don’t need another person in my life with that matching trait.  I need the contrast of a spontaneous person who is willing to wing it a little, break me out of my rut, and help me get moving and experiencing.  And they don’t need someone just like them, for that matter.  Living all for today would mean getting blindsided by a tomorrow they aren’t prepared for.  So embrace the contrasts in the people you love.  Don’t try to make them act like you.  It is those differences you fell in love with so that each of you can shine in your own unique way.

Here’s another contrast for you.  A wonderful event called Fall In Love, coordinated by Finesmith Muse Inspiration Week 7, Winter Zhukovsky.  And despite her name, she has created a fall shopping wonderland that is so autumny you can smell the apple cider.

Finesmith - Love Fall Poster

From November 23rd until November 30th, 35 leading designers have come together, many offering event exclusives.  Additionally, a fashion show displaying these designs is planned on November 26 at 4pm.  Hunt items courtesy of Finesmith are also tucked here and there, so you can combine your shopping and hunting in one place. Here is your TAXI.

And speaking of contrasts, while the event theme is a color-filled autumn, in honor of our coordinator Winter, here are two cozy Shine by [ZD] event offerings, but with a winter themed twist.

Letting go

You’ve been letting me go, little by little for a while now, and I’ve been moving away.  You’ve been my temporary home, and in that time, more of a partner to me than others who vowed to love me till death parted us, but left far sooner.  You’ve never promised this to me, nor I to you, and yet you’ve shown your commitment to me in myriad ways, mostly by letting me be me, and loving me despite my quirks.

With you, I feel safe emotionally.  Safe enough to gradually…ever so gradually…let you go, because it is time, and I need to, even if I still love you.  We’ve both seen it coming, the love still there, but the reality of a future together dimming.  The gentle pulling away, spending more time living separate lives, clinging together briefly in moments of passion and panic, as though trying to reassure each other that it isn’t ending, but knowing in our hearts what is on the horizon.  Don’t speak of it…let’s not speak of it aloud.

Sometimes love isn’t enough, when what each one wants in life is so different. And still we love for today…letting go a little more each day, knowing there will come a day, in the not so distant future, when there is that last kiss goodbye, that final embrace, and then just feeling lost for a time without the other, hoping that what we had can eventually become an abiding friendship as we both move on to whatever life holds for us.

No…don’t speak of it today.  Don’t say it aloud, because today, I am still here.  You are still here.  We will love for today and let tomorrow unfold as it will.

How to be a Modern-Day Robin Hood

Legend has it that Robin Hood robbed from the rich to give to the poor. At initial glance, we often tend to view that story in terms of an exchange of money, and many of us say; “I would love to make a difference to those in need, but I can barely make ends meet myself.”

The story is, in fact, a wonderful metaphor. For we are all rich in something, and what is valued most about you is rarely your finances. Maybe you are rich in creativity, or maybe it is compassion.  Perhaps you are rich in faith, and know beyond doubt that no matter how bad things may be today, this too shall pass.  Perhaps it is the ability to make someone else smile, or find the silver-lining in any situation. You may criticize yourself for being quiet, while others delight at what a good listener you are. We take these things for granted, as they tend to be part of our personality.  Rarely do we think of them in terms of any real value.

Modern Robin Hood

And perhaps they aren’t of much value to us personally.  They aren’t meant to be.  These are divine gifts that are meant to be given away, for there are others so very hungry for them, as they lack them in their own lives. These are your divine gifts to give; “divine” for they bring hope.  Hope is the real message behind Robin Hood, and you can be a modern-day Robin Hood.  The only cost is caring.

How to Make Magic

I’m going to say something that is going to sound somewhat contradictory, and yet it is entirely true.  There is no magic to making magic.  Let me explain what that means.  Magic, by its very nature, is a focused intention of will to create a tangible result or change.  Magic begins with a thought, coupled with a strong feeling of belief.  What you believe, you create.  What you focus on, you draw to you. The evidence of this is that there is nothing tangible that exists today, that did not begin as a seed of thought, coupled with a strong belief that it could be.  Belief inspires action, but it also sets the wheels in motion in the unseen realms.

Making Magic 1

It begins with something within us looking for a change; the belief that we deserve that change, and the belief that it can be. Once those beliefs are in place, one begins to live their life as though they have the fulfillment of their desire;  acting and talking as if that very thing is on the way, if not already arrived.  There is a settledness that comes over you, as you release that desire into the hands of whatever power you believe in, let go of fear and doubt, trusting and accepting that it is coming to you.  It is at this point that doors begin to open, new people are drawn to you, seeming coincidences begin to happen, and you begin to draw the thing you desire to you.  You find yourself moving forward, taking action, gaining momentum. This is the magic to making magic, to being a creator in your life. Don’t believe me?  Look at every major accomplishment in your life, and you will see that this is the very process that made it happen, and along the way, help often came from unlikely places.  There is no such thing as coincidence.

Making Magic

And for those who wonder or doubt if they deserve the magic they wish to have in their life?  Well, the very fact that there is a part of you that is not happy with where you are, is the very wise and knowing part of you that is trying to tell you; “Yes, you deserve something more, and you can have that magic in your life.”  Visualize, believe, release, and receive, that’s how you make magic.
