Tea Party

I think the Brits have the right idea.  American girls dispense with their tea parties as a rule some time around when we outgrow our dolls and teddy bears.  It is a shame really, because we all get hungry and need a snack at about that time of the afternoon, anyway.  Secondly, the only place in the U.S. we get to wear awesome hats is to the Kentucky Derby, and if you aren’t into horse racing, or old enough to pull off wearing one to church, there just isn’t much opportunity to doll-up with girly hat included.  I’m for bringing back tea parties, with all the goodies.

Tea Time

And speaking of goodies, Circa Living’s newest delicacies simply make me hungry.  My chocolate cravings have been off the charts between the trays of chocolate drizzled croissants, muffins, and chocolate candy cups.  They were perfect for an SL garden tea party, and of course, I took the opportunity to wear a girly hat.

And if you are needing a bit more room, the beauty of this skybox is that with a flat roof, you can build up.  I added on a patio area for my hot tub and outdoor entertaining.  The sky is the limit with this wonderful sky home.

How to be a Modern-Day Robin Hood

Legend has it that Robin Hood robbed from the rich to give to the poor. At initial glance, we often tend to view that story in terms of an exchange of money, and many of us say; “I would love to make a difference to those in need, but I can barely make ends meet myself.”

The story is, in fact, a wonderful metaphor. For we are all rich in something, and what is valued most about you is rarely your finances. Maybe you are rich in creativity, or maybe it is compassion.  Perhaps you are rich in faith, and know beyond doubt that no matter how bad things may be today, this too shall pass.  Perhaps it is the ability to make someone else smile, or find the silver-lining in any situation. You may criticize yourself for being quiet, while others delight at what a good listener you are. We take these things for granted, as they tend to be part of our personality.  Rarely do we think of them in terms of any real value.

Modern Robin Hood

And perhaps they aren’t of much value to us personally.  They aren’t meant to be.  These are divine gifts that are meant to be given away, for there are others so very hungry for them, as they lack them in their own lives. These are your divine gifts to give; “divine” for they bring hope.  Hope is the real message behind Robin Hood, and you can be a modern-day Robin Hood.  The only cost is caring.

Belong on the cover of Vogue – MVW Day 3

On Day 3, the BIG DAY, of Miss Virtual World Academy, we were challenged to get inspired by a Vogue Cover and style as if we belonged on the cover of Vogue.

I spent a fair amount of time perusing Vogue covers to find that most of them had only a face shot.  Digging a bit further into the pages, I saw a trend towards feminine gowns this year, along with a fair amount of haute couture and avant garde.  I chose the lovely Leezu Adriana gown as my inspiration piece.  I love the interesting shape of the skirt, the modern dots, and the lovely sheen to the fabric. It further caught my eye because the wonderful shapes could lend themselves to some mix and match play in the future to create something one-of-a-kind, and I love multi-use outfits.

I accented it with pearl Donna Flora jewelry to echo the dots and combined two Amacci hairstyles into one formal updo.  With lovely White Widow makeup to finish my look, I was feeling very elegant and ready for my Vogue cover.

And the results….I did NOT pass Day 3 of MVW Academy.  My feedback, which I sought out following Day 3 was that, while I looked beautiful and I was on the right track, they did not feel they saw enough of my personality in my styling.  I suspect it would have been preferred for me to “make something new” with component pieces of several outfits or separates.  I also had a minor prim issue that I was unable to correct to my satisfaction, and this was also noted by the judges, as it effected my pose selection.

I am not daunted, by the way, that I did not graduate the first time around.  Many, in fact most, do not.  I have known excellent models in the industry who took 2, and even 3 times, to pass MVW Academy, and done exceptional work in the meantime.  So…I will be back for my own round 2 in the coming months, and hopefully doing some exceptional work myself in-between.

Style like you have 100K in your pocket – MVW Day 2

Assignment for Miss Virtual World Academy Day 2 – Chic Casual Modern Model. Imagine you were on 5th avenue with $100,000 to spend on an amazingly chic casual understated look.

So here I am….stopping traffic. I channeled my inner J-Lo and Kim Kardashian for this styling challenge.  Luxurious fabrics and accessories was what I was after, so I started with a skirt I had in inventory that I just love, love, love from Zaara, in a blend of ivory linen and swishy silk, with a belted, high-waist.  For a morning fresh look, I kept my blouse simple, feminine, and summery, selecting a scarf halter top in a lovely geometric print and soft colors from Leezu.

Of course I needed a purse to carry all my lindens and a spritz of expensive cologne before leaving the house (if you inhale deeply and use your imagination, I bet you can smell it right through the computer).  Then the first stop of the day was the booN salon, for a casually intricate updo to display my pretty earrings. Now I’m ready for 5th Avenue, with perhaps a scone and latte on the way to keep my energy up.

And…the results of MVW Day 2…..Frolic said he’d open his shop doors to me, but just barely (not quite what I’d expected, but he didn’t elaborate).  He said he loved the lips, it was much better.  Then….GASP….he called me CUTE!  Now, cute in the real world is a compliment.  Sadly, in much of the modeling world, it is NOT.  Models are to be glamourous or fierce, not cute.  Cute is only acceptable in the fashion industry when combined with attitude.  So, I will need to un-cute myself.
