Paint Your World

What a fun time I had exploring Cica Ghost’s black and white *Cica* sim. It is the perfect backdrop to showcase fun, bright clothing and accessories that just leap off the page.

I’m feeling painterly in a bright multi-hued wrap dress from Lush Limited, artsy accessories from HANDverk, and playful blue rhapsody shoes from BSD Design Studio.  I even have a smattering of freckles, thanks to Face Paint’s new Pippi makeup.

It is also a reminder that life is our canvas…leave your mark.  Bring some color into someone’s life.  Be an individual that stands out, rather than blends in.  Childlike is not childish…never lose your joy.  So many metaphors to be found from one awesomely creative sim.

In command of the season

Funny how when the weather begins to change, the things we desire begin to change as well.  Now that fall is approaching I find myself wanting to make homemade baked potato soup and apple pie, and indulge in other comfort foods that were just too hearty for summer fare.  I also find myself playing with clothing layers; and nothing speaks of fall louder to me than plaids.

In the Commander Coatdress from Zanze House of Couture, you will feel ready for the season.  This is a wonderful layering piece, available in 5 different versions, and just begging to be paired with turtlenecks, scarfs, or even a lacy collar.   I’m not sure if you’ve heard or not, but tights are in this year.  I chose to pull some of the blue out of the plaid stitching of the coat with royal blue Gizza tights.  And even though I’m usually brunette, I’m feeling in command of the season with a bright dollop of auburn curls from EMO-tions, since hair can be just as much a layering piece in SL as clothes and jewelry.  Finishing my look is a playful tote bag from Lush Limited with a trend towards the fun “geek chic” with its proclamation; “Dear Algebra, Stop asking me to solve your “X” problem.  Clearly she doesn’t want you.”

Rock’n the Happy

As I was working on this post, I was reminded of one of the best “feel good” things we can do for ourselves, something I used to do frequently in my teens, but somehow forgot about as I got older.  You see, this kaftan by Lush Limited was inspired by the styling of Pat Benatar, so I thought it appropriate to kick on YouTube and rock out to some of her hits as I worked on my photo.  It brought back memories of many nights during the years of teenage angst, when I’d just close my bedroom door and DANCE.  It seemed no matter how down I had been, losing myself to the rhythm of a driving rock tune, the movement, the adrenalin, especially if the song had empowering lyrics, like in Benatar classics… it was a guaranteed pick-me-up.  I couldn’t help but rock and bop in my computer chair, even as I was working on my post, big smile on my face.  So see for yourself, no matter how old you may be, if dancing doesn’t make life a little lighter.  Here’s to rock’n the happy.

Valkyrie – Westwood Tribute

Today I’m sharing a bit of iconic history in two forms.  First, Vivienne Westwood.  If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Westwood Tribute, and you love fashion and fashion history, you have only a couple of days left.  Westwood’s career has been dedicated to turning conventional fashion on its head.  It is truly all about the creativity.  Not only was I oohing and aahing over the many designer tribute items exclusive only to this event, but I found I gained an even further appreciation for the magnitude of Westwood’s influence in fashion and punk/rock styling culture after walking through the Tribute hall, very much like a museum, showcasing Vivienne Westwood’s creative genius and fashion legacy.

I used several Westwod tribute items from Lush Limited to create my second historical icon, my view of the legendary Valkyrie, the Norse warrior demi-goddesses who spirited the strongest and bravest fallen soldiers to Valhala.  Thanks to the Westwood influence, however, my Valkyrie has been a bit modernized.

First and foremost is the “stand-up and stand-out” Impale hair from Lush Limited.  Made out of gold and silver spikes and rings, it would work great for any kind of rock or punk theme, or for adding a touch of shiny danger to your avant looks.  It is like jewelry for your head, and a fitting headdress for my modern warrior woman.  Then, with a combination of Lush Limited and Madrid Solo makeups, my Valkyrie leaves an impression both glamorous, haunting, and truly iconic.  This is the new face of Norse mythology.

Happy Summer…Happy Summer Separates

Today is the longest day of the year for the Northern Hemisphere and the official start of summer.  So, happy summer to you all, and…happy summertime separates.  It is time for brights and lights, beginning with silky mesh Baila pants from Blueberry.  Available in solids and a variety of prints, these are flow-with-you pants that are casual enough to layer over your favorite bathing suit or silky top, like my Oasis Champagne Silk from AngelWing. Combined with a short-sleeved sweater from elly, and you should stay comfortable even with a breeze off the water.

Also catching the breeze is my summertime jewelry, including this wood and metal Wild necklace from LaGyo, and Lush Limited’s Geometry shutter earrings in cool shades of blue and green.  The  earrings remind me of Asian lattice-work,  and the set includes the silver nose stud to add just a touch of exotic to any outfit.  The Geometry set is on sale now at the Fashion Cache through Friday the 22nd.   Lush has also revamped their flagship store with many new seasonal offerings, so take the Lush Limited taxi to have a look at all their new goodies.

As Colorful as Your Imagination

Whether you are a guy or a gal, at some point, we all played with blocks.  I had a set of bright colored alphabet blocks that I played with into my preteens, using the F, P and L turned upside-down for chairs, and the D and O for tables.  It was my modernistic take on Barbie furniture back then.

Today, instead of playing with blocks, we play with color, and the trend called “color-blocking” lets us mix and match to be as colorful as our imagination.  I had so much fun styling this outfit, starting with Lush Limited’s Mod Color Block top as inspiration in hues of turquoise, yellow, purple, and a splash of hot pink on the back.  From there I just began to play with options to make a happy combination, including color block jewelry from Finesmith and a bright skirt and leggings from Nemesis.  Even hair and makeup lends itself to color blocking, with some pink and purple streaks for my blond locks, then more Lush Limited goodies, including Nightshade shadow and a fun two-tone lipstick.  All the Lush Limited pretties are available at the Color Blocking Fair going on now.

Modernly Organic

Even in charcoal, the sheen on Apple May’s mesh Day Time Maxi dress suggests brushed silk.  It makes you just want to reach out and fondle it.  This is a dress I want in RL, because I can imagine how soft it would feel brushing teasingly against my legs. Available in three lovely colors, this dress is undeniable comfort that makes me think of sunshine, bare feet and umbrella drinks.

In keeping with the organic theme, these pics were shot at Bazar Quality Homes and Furniture, where designer Ria Bazar creates the perfect blend of modern and organic.  I love her homes, with plenty of glass mixed in with natural woods, neutral tones, and water, water everywhere.  The feel is natural, airy, yet upscale and classy.  I just had to dip my Slink Tip Toes in one of her pools.

Nature even inspired my styling, as tree branches and birds adorn my UrbanLutz hair.  And since I was baring some skin to the sunshine, I thought what fun it would be to decorate it with henna tattoos from Lush Limited.
