Treats

Treats…this is a word we learn young that forever induces a smile, and in many cases, a scramble.  For example, I’ve learned there is no point in calling my cats by name to get them to come inside when simply hollering “TREATS!” out the door will send them tumbling one over the other to be the first inside.  And kids?  Well, they can’t get to the table fast enough, after which there is the tussle over who has the biggest piece or who took more.  And as adults…well, we really aren’t any better.  We all have our favorite treats, and this time of the year, holidays seem to go hand in hand with treats.  Hey…it’s cold outside. So why not indulge in a bit of comfort food, a little extra padding to insulate us, and a bulky sweater to hide under for a few months.

The Vision: To Give Disadvantaged Children a Good Future

Tunza comes from the Swahili word meaning “to care for” and that is the goal of The Mama Tunza Children’s Home.  There are an estimated 1,659,000 orphans in Kenya, approximately 126 or which call The Mama Tunza Children’s Home their home, and for which the Masai Mara event has been organized.  The mission of the center is to provide a home, nourishment, and education to disadvantaged children, many of whom are orphans, many of whom are HIV positive.

Your visit to the Masai Mara Solidarity Store is shopping for a great cause, helping to spread the mission and raise funds to provide a better life for these children.  There are so many beautiful exclusives available, and even 100L helps to feed a child.  Here is just one of the lovely offerings, the Zebra Showgirl by Russh Lussh for Masai Mara.  This is an outfit you can strut your stuff in, and it carries with it the spirit of celebration.

You can help put a smile on a needy child’s face.  Mama Tunza Video Link.

Rock’n the Happy

As I was working on this post, I was reminded of one of the best “feel good” things we can do for ourselves, something I used to do frequently in my teens, but somehow forgot about as I got older.  You see, this kaftan by Lush Limited was inspired by the styling of Pat Benatar, so I thought it appropriate to kick on YouTube and rock out to some of her hits as I worked on my photo.  It brought back memories of many nights during the years of teenage angst, when I’d just close my bedroom door and DANCE.  It seemed no matter how down I had been, losing myself to the rhythm of a driving rock tune, the movement, the adrenalin, especially if the song had empowering lyrics, like in Benatar classics… it was a guaranteed pick-me-up.  I couldn’t help but rock and bop in my computer chair, even as I was working on my post, big smile on my face.  So see for yourself, no matter how old you may be, if dancing doesn’t make life a little lighter.  Here’s to rock’n the happy.

Big Screen Hollywood Glamour at Hope For Emilia

You’ve heard of the “little black dress.” Emily from Glamour Style is the “little black gown,” classic in its styling, oh so flattering in its design, and exclusive to Hope For Emilia, with proceeds going to aid Italy’s earthquake victims. Harkening back to the age of Hollywood glamour, it makes you think of those on-screen legends of the 30’s and 40’s with its lovely full-length shape bedecked in hand-tooled beadwork sewn into a lovely repeating diamond pattern.  With so many sparklies adorning this gown, I keep thinking how heavy it would be in real life.  Good thing this is SL, where we can shimmer and sparkle the night away without consequence.

Accessories for this gown include lovely Nightingale jewelry from Kunglers, a fur wrap all-tied-up-with-a-bow for brisk evenings out, vintage hair from Vanity and Smokie makeup from Face Paint.

A Feel-Good Dress – Hope For Emilia

Molichino’s Pixie dress is such a “feel-good” dress for several reasons.  First, since Pixie is a Hope for Emilia offering,  your shopping dollars are raising funds to help Italy’s earthquake victims.  Second, I have found you simply can’t go anywhere with this dress on and not get attention and compliments.  Pixie is so well made, with quality linen, stitched seam details, and a girlish shape.  It is casual, chic and classy.

I have found the Hope for Emilia posts for Molichino’s offering wonderfully varied, as well.  It is a real testament to the versatility of this dress, as you can dress it up or down and play with many accessory accent colors.  I love clothes that let me be creative, and become new all over again, depending on the accessories I add.  Molichino’s Pixie is that kind of dress.

I chose to add some color pops to the luscious gold version I’m wearing with a LaGyo hat, Finesmith necklace, and Molichino clutch in aqua hues.  Pixie is a dress you will find yourself reaching for again and again, so pop on over to Hope for Emilia to take home your favorite colors while helping a great cause.

Shopping Chic or Anytime Chic

I’m all ready for a day of shopping in my Blueberry Lena Mesh Jumpsuit.  This great outfit is easy, breezy, and curvy, coming in versions with or without the belt, so (Yay!) no resizing is required when you do choose to accessorize.  I accented the jumpsuit with a big floppy hat from Maya Sharpshire.  I’m loving this hat, and in fact, I have one in ever color, because it is versatile enough to wear with a bikini, a maxi dress, even country club attire for an added touch of chic.  Both the jumpsuit and the hat come in a wonderful range of colors so you can find the one (or many) that is just right for you.

Fun blue and silver accessories finish my look, including Boheme jewelry from Je Suis, and these darling nails from the Finesmith Summer Hunt that are just too cute, with little birds perched on the tips.  With a BIG bag from Handmade, I am all set to carry my many pixel purchases.

Femme Fatale

Femme by Belladonna Couture is a little bit Grace Kelly, a sprinkling of Jackie O,  with a heaping dash of Audrey Hepburn.  AbbyRose Abbot (Glendevon) took both a simple, yet clever approach to styling this dress, with patterns strategically placed to show off woman curves and clean lines on a backdrop of elegant black.  Blended all together, this dress is all about looking and being a classy and capable lady, no matter what storms come your way.
