Cinema and TRPH Styling – The Drama and the Elegance

Just a few hours left to swing by Cinema 2012 to pick up a design that can be either dramatic costume or  elegant evening dress.

You will make a striking Queen of the Nile in this fabulous Cobra Queen gown by 22769, including the headpiece and snake boa.  The colors are rich and regal, swathing you in black, gold, and purple silk in this flowing mesh gown.

Madrid Solo’s Raven’s Flock accents this look with makeup worthy of Egyptian royalty.

Finally, if you are looking for a more modern look that is just as dramatic, this versatile gown converts from B.C. to A.D. formal evening wear simply by switching to a tousled jewel-bedecked updo by EMO-tions and the Miracle ring, Chop Zuey’s item for The Runway Perfect Hunt, also ending at 11:59pm Oct 31st.

Playing Hookie

Sometimes you have one of those “manic Mondays” and you are all dressed up for the day, and at the last minute you think to yourself; “I really don’t feel like working today.  I think I’ll play hookie.”  Every now and again, I think it is fine to take an unplanned day for yourself, to indulge a little and grab some “me time.”  So me and the beagle went out for a mint hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.  I’m looking like a schoolgirl out playing hookie in my layered knit top from ColdLogic and a tweedy Taffy skirt from Molichino.

I did bring my Ipad case along, however, so maybe I will still get some work done afterall.

Do you believe in coincidence?

Do you believe in coincidence?  I for one tend to believe that things happen for a reason, and that if you follow your gut, listen to that inner wisdom that advises you, it is often the best course of action you can take.  For instance, sometimes when I am out and about, I spy an item that inspires me, speaks to me even, and says “you must be mine.”  It gets the wheels of creativity turning.  I dont’ know if it is beckoning to me or I to it, but I find I must heed the call.  When I stumbled across the Geisha Girl dress by Zanze House of Couture, in rich oranges and tans, it reminded me of autumn leaves, but with an unexpected Asian twist.  I had to take it home.  But that is not the end of this story.

It is funny how life works sometimes.  Shortly after purchasing the dress, the designer Zzoiezee sent me an IM to ask me about my shopping experience.  We got to chatting, I shared a bit of my work with her, and shortly thereafter I was surprised and delighted to be invited to blog for Zanze.  So you will be seeing her fresh perspective and unique designs in my posts on a more frequent basis going forward.  It all started with a dress that insisted it must come home with me, and I followed my gut.  Who beckoned whom, I must wonder…and again I will ponder; is there really such thing as a coincidence?

The eyes have it

This flirty little number is all about the eyes, mixing fluffy, soft and sultry into a wonderful summer-into-fall casual outfit.  Brand new from Molichino to celebrate their first year anniversary is the relaxed tunic, a short-sleeved sweater available in a range of colors with a mix-and-match fur collar that veils the lower half of the face, bringing the focus on the eyes.  This tunic works great alone as a mini dress when paired with some boots, and is also great for layering over your favorite tights or leggings.

And since this outfit is really all about the eyes, why not have some fun with bold, dramatic eye makeups?  I chose Madrid Solo’s Guilty Pleasures, available this month at Gypset Market, for a sultry sparkle, then framed my eyes further with loose and wild curls from EMO-tions.

The Vision: To Give Disadvantaged Children a Good Future

Tunza comes from the Swahili word meaning “to care for” and that is the goal of The Mama Tunza Children’s Home.  There are an estimated 1,659,000 orphans in Kenya, approximately 126 or which call The Mama Tunza Children’s Home their home, and for which the Masai Mara event has been organized.  The mission of the center is to provide a home, nourishment, and education to disadvantaged children, many of whom are orphans, many of whom are HIV positive.

Your visit to the Masai Mara Solidarity Store is shopping for a great cause, helping to spread the mission and raise funds to provide a better life for these children.  There are so many beautiful exclusives available, and even 100L helps to feed a child.  Here is just one of the lovely offerings, the Zebra Showgirl by Russh Lussh for Masai Mara.  This is an outfit you can strut your stuff in, and it carries with it the spirit of celebration.

You can help put a smile on a needy child’s face.  Mama Tunza Video Link.

Rev up your engines

Before this recent style challenge, I don’t think I owned a thing with skulls on it.  That was why I had to take up this challenge and give it a whirl when I learned about InWorld’s Biker Rave Party.  I had such fun styling this outfit, which was way out of my norm.  But then, that is one of the joys of SL Fashion…the ability to remake yourself and slip into a role.

So, first course of business, the leather jacket.  I found this awesome detailed woman’s urban leather jacket from Lapointe and Bastchild, and had a tough time deciding between the Morte version, or the UK flag version, but the Madrid Solo tattoo helped me finalize that decision.  Ahoy hair from Secrets was perfect, with its mesh braids framing the face, and color-change bandana.  Finally, add a corset from NV Corsetry, leather Gizza pants, and silver Redgrave biker boots, and there before me was a badass biker girl.

Rev up your engines and be sure to mark your calender for the InWorld New Gen Biker Rave party on September 29th at 3pm.

Valkyrie – Westwood Tribute

Today I’m sharing a bit of iconic history in two forms.  First, Vivienne Westwood.  If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Westwood Tribute, and you love fashion and fashion history, you have only a couple of days left.  Westwood’s career has been dedicated to turning conventional fashion on its head.  It is truly all about the creativity.  Not only was I oohing and aahing over the many designer tribute items exclusive only to this event, but I found I gained an even further appreciation for the magnitude of Westwood’s influence in fashion and punk/rock styling culture after walking through the Tribute hall, very much like a museum, showcasing Vivienne Westwood’s creative genius and fashion legacy.

I used several Westwod tribute items from Lush Limited to create my second historical icon, my view of the legendary Valkyrie, the Norse warrior demi-goddesses who spirited the strongest and bravest fallen soldiers to Valhala.  Thanks to the Westwood influence, however, my Valkyrie has been a bit modernized.

First and foremost is the “stand-up and stand-out” Impale hair from Lush Limited.  Made out of gold and silver spikes and rings, it would work great for any kind of rock or punk theme, or for adding a touch of shiny danger to your avant looks.  It is like jewelry for your head, and a fitting headdress for my modern warrior woman.  Then, with a combination of Lush Limited and Madrid Solo makeups, my Valkyrie leaves an impression both glamorous, haunting, and truly iconic.  This is the new face of Norse mythology.

Celebrate Freedom

The 4th of July.  In the States this is a day to make a little noise and celebrate independence, freedom, and opportunity.  While it can be easier sometimes to find things to complain about in our country, on this day, it is a time for gratitude.  This is the day we remember all the many freedoms we do have; the freedom to live how and where we want, to make ourselves into who we want, to work in the profession of our choice, speak our minds, travel anywhere with little or no restriction, and to change our minds and explore life’s options over and over again.   So much we take for granted sometimes, in this land of opportunity, where we are rarely told “no” as it relates to who and what we do.  So on this day remember, give thanks, hug a soldier or a veteran for their sacrifices to secure these freedoms we enjoy, celebrate and make some noise.  Fireworks anyone?
